We wanted to share this video of a wheelchair recipient in the Dominican Republic who shares what a difference the right wheelchair can make for an individual and a family. The last lady we interviewed in Chosica had a Rough Rider wheelchair like this man and it was really the only way she would be able to get out of her house and around her neighborhood to feel like a community member.
She lives high on the hillside in a neighborhood. Steep terrain, lots of steps (if stairs have been put in) and lots of rocks in what could be considered the road or sidewalk. It looks in many ways more like some of the backcountry hiking trails Rob trekked with the scouts than a residential neighborhood.
What a difference a wheelchair can make for something we seem to take for granted, the ability to move around from place to place. We hope you enjoy the video.
